Things do not look good for Sony , as expected. The company's shares have fallen to 5% this week in an attack that has compromised the bank details of 70 million users.

The gap has been described by leading security firms as one of the most serious in years, estimated payments of $ 20 for each of the 77 million affected, resulting in compensation in excess of 1,500 million dollars. In fact, if we consider that the cost of investigating an attack of this type is $ 318 per account, Sony could end up shelling out more than 24,000 million dollars to completely clarify this intrusion.

The British ICO (The Information Commissioner's Office) for its part, also threatens to exceed a fine of 500,000 pounds, given its commitment to the protection of sensitive personal information.

There's more. What if the California Court ended agreeing with Kristopher Johns of Birmingham (Alabama) in its lawsuit against Sony? This is likely the first of many disputes that the company could face charges of irresponsible "not to protect, encrypt and secure the privacy of user information."

Sony alleged against its lack of transparency and slow to communicate the consequences of the attack, which stole millions of users valuable time during which the reaction could have canceled their accounts among other measures. Johns now calls service monitoring credit on account of Sony and a compensation payment, something that would motivate granted thousands of new claims covered in the favorable resolution.

Sony, meanwhile, has already begun to send mass emails to users notifying them of the issue. Mails in which no one speaks at all of responsibility, which have been exempted as we read in the British magazine EDGE:

Exclude all liability for loss of data or unauthorized access to accounts online Sony Network and the damage caused to your software or hardware as a result of using or having access to Sony Online Network.

Unfortunate statement more if it increases the dismay of gamers attached to its platform, which now tries contentárseles promising (although not certainly) to have their trophies and items will still be there when everything returns to normal:

The data stored in the cloud, that is, saved games, trophies and other content will not be affected by the assault on PSN and will be active again once the system is online.

There is also talk that, because of the deep restructuring that is suffering Playstation Network , the service returns a long time with features demanded by users, such as voice and video chat crossed during the games. Although eye, it also is a mere possibility.

But what about security? Should we ever trust the ability of Sony to ensure security? The giant says it is already working on the firmware update next week that will require a password change to all network users, while strengthening their security infrastructure through a completely renovated (transfer of data center by).

To our relief, yes, know that the company has confirmed the encryption of the data bank (not the person) but so far have evidence that have been removed. In any case, remember that prevention is better than cure.
